The society through a variety of actions and approaches including strategic research promote and support development and dissemination of options and solutions to arrest environment degradation, protect environment and contribute towards sustainable management and development through policy advisory and restorative action, demonstrable services to the stakeholders besides capacity development in the focus areas and not limited to the following:
To develop and implement ecological restoration technologies for engineering degraded states of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems to their original states through understanding of science of restoration ecology.
To develop and promote bioremediation technologies for treatment and sustainable management of industrial wastes. To recycle the waste water and recover the nutrients and remove heavy metals through bioremediation/constructed wetlands.
To evolve green technologies to mitigate air pollution.
To develop and promote solutions of solid waste management.
To assess the impacts of climate change, and its mitigation and adaptation.
To revisit traditional knowledge in contemporary development model.
To promote sustainable agricultural practices in India.
To promote afforestation/social forestry/agroforestry for providing livelihood and reducing carbon footprints.
To promote the use of non conventional energy resources including solar, wind, and biofuels etc.
To undertake eco-toxicological studies to assess the impact of environmental contamination on human health.
To organize short term courses in environmental restoration of degraded lands, rejuvenation of water bodies, environmental law and other relevant fields.
To promote/undertake activities to bring harmony between nature and human nature.
To promote capacity building in action research and management through training of stakeholders and education.
To organize orientation/Faculty development programmes, seminars, symposias, conferences and training programs for various stakeholders in the pursuit of its objectives and vision.
To promote and provide grants scholarships/financial assistance to meritorious/economically or socially backward students/ research scholars in selected disciplines.
To promote the establishment of Biodiversity Parks in different eco-geographical regions of the country.
